Didier Drogba
Football legend & peace advocate
The striker who used football to help halt a civil war.
The rise
Drogba became one of the world's most feared strikers, leading Chelsea to its first Champions League title and starring for Côte d'Ivoire.
What they did
At the height of his fame he knelt on live TV to plead for peace in Ivory Coast's civil war — a moment credited with helping spur a ceasefire — and funded hospitals at home.
The full picture
Football diplomacy has limits and Ivory Coast's divisions ran deep, but his moral influence was real.
Why it matters
Drogba showed an athlete's platform can serve a nation, not just a trophy cabinet.
“We proved that Ivorians can live side by side. Please, lay down your weapons.”
