Samuel Eto'o
From global superstar to sports administrator reshaping the game at home.
The rise
One of Africa's greatest footballers, Eto'o won multiple Champions League titles in Europe and a record four African Player of the Year awards.
What they did
He used his platform for philanthropy and anti-racism advocacy, then in 2021 was elected president of FECAFOOT to reform Cameroonian football from within.
The full picture
His administrative tenure has been turbulent, marked by disputes and governance controversies — a reminder that star power doesn't automatically translate into institutional reform.
Why it matters
Eto'o represents a generation of African icons converting global success into influence and investment back home — with all its challenges.
“Africa is not a continent of misery. It is a continent of opportunity.”
